Page Setup (this document)

Headers, footers, and page numbers work in Chromium.

Keyboard shortcuts

• Ctrl/Cmd + S - Save
• Ctrl/Cmd + Z - Undo
• Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + Z or Ctrl/Cmd + Y - Redo
• Ctrl/Cmd + B / I / U - Bold / italic / underline
• Ctrl/Cmd + Alt + 1 to 6 - Heading 1 to 6 for the current paragraphs, 0 - Normal text
• Escape - Close whichever panel is open
• Page Setup in the sidebar lets you adjust the size of pages, margins, header/footer, and page numbers. Pageless doesn't show these except when printing
• Right click for the writefields menu, right click again to bypass and get your native right click
• **bold** / __italic__ / ~~strike~~ - Markdown-style shortcuts, converts as soon as you type the closing pair
• # through ###### at the start of a line - Heading 1 to 6
• - / 1. / [ ] at the start of a line - Bullet, numbered or checklist item. Click a checklist box to tick it
• --- alone on a line, then Enter - Horizontal rule
• Insert… then Table of contents - a list of the document's headings at the cursor, kept up to date as you write; click an entry to jump to its heading. Exported as links in HTML and as a list under <!-- table of contents --> in Markdown, which reads back as the block
• Insert… then Footnote - a numbered marker at the cursor with its note listed under the text; click a marker for Edit and Remove, or a note to jump to its marker. Markers renumber as you write. Markdown writes [^1] with [^1]: text at the end and reads the same back, HTML links marker and note both ways, plain text and print list the notes after the text
• Tab / Shift + Tab in a list item - Nest it a level in / out, as the two Indent buttons do. The buttons also indent plain paragraphs, which Markdown export leaves flush
• Ctrl/Cmd + Enter = Page break. Shows as a dashed line
• Click images to set visual size on page and float it to wrap text. You can give it alt text for PDF too.
• Images aren't compressed so you will be warned if you paste images larger than 10mb and if you have more than 100mb of images total in the bundle. You can't paste images over 25mb as that causes issues, compress it first.
• The Line spacing and Space after dropdowns set the current paragraphs (or the selection). Enter key continues the settings to the next paragraph. Set defaults for new documents in Settings
• Markdown-style shortcuts can be turned off in Settings
• Zoom in the sidebar scales the page on screen only, 50% to 200%, and is remembered. Print and PDF stay at 100%
• A .wfb, .wfd, .md or .txt dropped anywhere on the window opens as Open would, after the usual confirm. Images dropped in the text are still inserted
• Pasting raw Markdown formats it, undo once to keep the raw text. Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + V pastes it literally
• Copying also makes plain text markdown available so you can paste rich or plain text depending on what you paste into. Change this in Settings
• Ctrl/Cmd + P - Print or save as PDF, same as Export PDF
• Ctrl/Cmd + F - Find in document, Enter / Shift + Enter to step through matches. All tabs lists every match in the bundle grouped by tab, click one to jump to it. Replace and Replace All work on the current tab
• Replace field in the find bar: Enter replaces the current match, replace all replaces every match
• Every open document is a tab in the sidebar, click "+ Document" to add one, double click a tab to rename it, click x to close it, drag a tab to reorder them (the order is what the bundle saves)
• A single document is just a bundle with one tab in it. Open takes a .wfb bundle, or a .wfd, .md or .txt file as a new one-tab bundle. "New tab from file" adds a .wfd, .md or .txt as a tab in the current bundle. The Export dropdown pulls the current tab back out as .wfd, Markdown, HTML, plain text, or PDF
• Markdown in and out is plain text, so fonts and rich formatting styles aren't kept. Save as a wfb to preserve rich formatting
• Undocked toolbar panels in Settings replaces the sidebar and format toolbar with four panels (Files, Tabs, Text, Paragraph) you can drag and resize. narrow and the controls stack, wide and they wrap in rows, the - and ❙ buttons are presets for each. Double-click the grab to reset a size, drag the ⠿⠿ grip to move. Near a window edge or another panel it snaps, and a panel on an edge pushes the page aside instead of covering it. Close a panel with its ×, restore it in Settings. Positions and sizes are remembered and "Reset panel positions" puts everything back
• The Outline dropdown in the sidebar lists every heading (H1 to H6, indented by level) in the current tab. You can click one to jump straight to it
